In the Irish blogging scene, there’s been a lot of discussion about what it means to be an influencer, a content creator, and an online personality in Ireland.
There’s a big difference between simply being labeled as an “influencer” and truly being a digital creative.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, we spoke with six emerging fashion creatives, each at different stages in their blogging and influencing careers. We discussed their goals, inspirations, and their thoughts on the influencing industry in Ireland.
Courtney Kat Sharp @courtneykatsharp.com
Courtney is a fashion expert who balances a full-time fashion career with managing her digital channels. Her focus on well-cut fabrics and playful prints makes every outfit a fresh experience. Courtney started her blog about three or four years ago, driven by a passion for creating great content and bringing her fashion visions to life. She loves seeing her creative ideas come to fruition and values having a platform to showcase them.
Courtney feels the Irish influencer scene has evolved, noting that while some influencers dominate the space, often with similar styles, she wishes for more creative diversity in Dublin’s fashion scene. Her ultimate goal is to produce content she’s proud of and to be recognized as a leader in Dublin’s fashion industry. She finds inspiration from various sources, including the fashion scenes in London and Paris, and Native American culture. Fashion is deeply ingrained in her life, shaping her identity and bringing joy.
Mei Ling @darlingbudsofmei.com
Mei Ling has been a fixture in the Irish blogging scene, known for her high-fashion influence and unique personal style. She began blogging about beauty ten years ago, inspired by American YouTubers. After a break, she resumed blogging during a gap year, focusing on personal style. Mei has seen the Irish influencer scene change dramatically, noting the shift from blogging to influencing and the rise of microblogging. She enjoys creating content and working with brands she loves, like Adidas and Levi’s.
Mei’s style is influenced by her mood, the weather, and her surroundings. She draws inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest and has recently started a YouTube channel to explore DIY, thrift shopping, and sustainable fashion. She believes that video content is increasingly important as blog readership declines.
Kiera @JustTheFWordBlog
Kiera, known for styling curvy bodies, started blogging for two main reasons: the need for a creative outlet and the lack of relatable fashion content for curvy individuals. She noticed a gap in the market for styles that fit and are affordable for people like her, and she wanted to address this. Kiera feels the Irish influencer scene has changed, with more influencers emerging but also facing issues like a lack of transparency. She aims to promote body positivity and inclusivity, hoping to inspire others to embrace their curves and explore diverse fashion.
Her style is influenced by various sources, including magazines, Instagram, and real-life encounters. She advocates for more diversity and authenticity in media, emphasizing the importance of representation in all aspects of life.
Dearbhail Brogan @dailydee_blog
Dearbhail Brogan’s blog, The Daily Dee, offers outfit inspiration with a focus on unique and wearable fashion pieces. Dearbhail has always loved fashion and styling, finding her calling in blogging after being inspired by Coco Chanel’s quote about fashion as a daily runway. She’s seen the Irish influencer scene transform with the rise of social media, allowing anyone to become an influencer regardless of their background.
Her goal is to continue sharing her style while staying true to herself and to work with brands she admires. Her style inspiration comes from pop culture and fellow bloggers, particularly those who are bold and confident in their fashion choices.
Yasmin Robinson @Snazzyyazi
Yasmin Robinson’s unique approach to fashion, from block color suits to city chic, sets her apart. She always loved fashion and was encouraged by friends and family to start her own blog. Yasmin’s blog initially began as a hobby but has grown into a job with opportunities to work with various brands and local companies. She aims to develop her skills further and expand into styling.
Her style is inspired by bloggers who push boundaries and stand out. She hopes her unique style inspires others to embrace their own fashion choices.
Paola Morales @hola-paola.com
Paola Morales recently celebrated two years of her blog, known for its educational fashion content. She began sharing her style on Instagram before starting her blog as a way to channel her passion for fashion during a challenging time. The rapid growth of the digital world has changed the influencer landscape, making it a full-time job and shifting public preference towards more “real” influencers.
Paola’s style is influenced by a mix of cultures, including Spanish romanticism and Latin American colors and textures. She wants to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and hopes to continue working in digital media or fashion-related fields.
